The Sharp SMC0710BB/BW microwave proved to be a mixed bag during our tests, offering good performance in some areas but not excelling in others. While all the microwaves we tested successfully cooked food, this particular model didn’t consistently deliver the same level of quality. Here’s a closer look at its performance and features:
Pros:
- Extended Warranty: One standout feature of the Sharp SMC0710BB/BW is its long warranty coverage. It offers more warranty protection than the average microwave, which can be a valuable asset.
Cons:
- Inconsistent Popcorn: The microwave didn’t perform as well as some of its competitors when it came to popping popcorn. While it prepared some popcorn perfectly, it tied for the highest number of unpopped kernels compared to other microwaves.
- Mixed Potato Results: When using the potato button, the results were less than perfect. The potato had a hard section in the middle, and although you could add more time to soften it, other microwaves managed to cook the potato perfectly with a single press of the potato button.
- Unique Marshmallow Cooking Pattern: During a cooking consistency test with marshmallows, this microwave displayed a unique cooking pattern with wide brown stripes. However, this pattern proved effective, as the microwave performed well in cooking pizza rolls evenly, with only a 3-degree difference in temperature between rolls from side to side.
Cooking Options:
- The Sharp SMC0710BB/BW offers basic cooking options, including six express modes for one-touch cooking. Additionally, it features dedicated buttons for popcorn, potato, pizza, frozen vegetables, and beverages.
Warranty:
- One of the standout aspects of this microwave is its warranty coverage. It comes with a five-year warranty for the magnetron, which is one of the best warranties available in the microwave market. This extended warranty provides peace of mind, especially considering the microwave’s reasonably low initial cost.
In summary, the Sharp SMC0710BB/BW microwave displayed good performance in several areas but fell short in terms of consistency, particularly in popcorn and potato cooking. However, its excellent warranty coverage and reasonable price make it a solid choice for those seeking an affordable microwave with added protection.
